i mentioned a few weeks ago on instagram that january had been really rough and thats why i disappeared. things are getting better and i’m slowly easing my way back into the swing of things. i have some fun projects coming up, so check back soon!
here are some things i’ve been collecting over the past month:
since this is our first christmas in our new neighborhood, it’s been so fun to see all the decorations. pretty much everyone goes all out- its amazing!
did y’all know they had bedding?? perfect for a little girl’s room or guest room. even better- 50% off right now!
don’t forget to follow me on pinterest and insta! (i’ll be posting over my break!)
i have one more post next week and then i’m going to take some time to be with my family for the holidays. hope everyone has a happy, cozy christmas and a fun (and safe!) new years- see you in 2016!
i know i mentioned i was going to do a post about my bathroom reno this week but it has rained every. single. day. and there are a few more shots i’d like to get when its not raining. anyways, we have a lot of christmas things going on this weekend (a parade, charlottesville holiday market, the holiday market at grelen– has anyone been? i’m super excited!) and lots of decorating! hope y’all have a great weekend!
so I’m going to join the masses and try out this whole gift guide thing. i’m so unique! but hey, my stepdad (hi swan!), told me that he just bought a christmas present for me, based on my blog. so, i mean, if that’s all the good that comes out of these types of posts, that just kinda means i get to not-so secretly tell everyone what to get me 😉
some of my favorite shops just happen to be located in charleston- thank god they have the option of online shopping although i sure do miss popping in! also, i tried to round up some stores in charlottesville but as i haven’t lived there in over ten years, i’m a little out of the loop- would love recommendations!
its been rainy here this week but those leaf colors kiiiinda make up for it. we’re sticking around here this weekend (finally!). my sister is coming for a visit so i’m sure we’ll be eating a lot of candy, watching netflix and laughing way too much be enjoying the weather and halloweening.
»we are toying with the idea of hosting thanksgiving here and if we do, i think i need to finally bite the bullet.
»starting to form thoughts (perhaps even darker grout?) on a phase 1 bathroom reno. (sidenote- our house is c 1926 but has a small addition with a full, yet tiny, bathroom. it has been updated .1% aka they painted the wall/ shower tile, which isn’t horrible but pretty bad. but the kicker is the 1968 floor tile. its that shades of yellow/ beige and different size square look. super chic. 😐 sooo to make the bathroom a little more bearable until we can really make it pretty, i’d like to put new floor tile in, paint the vanity (which is currently some sort of light wood) and paint the walls. or maybe if i’m feeling sassy maybe some dramatic wallpaper (here, here, here) ?
the new bohemians: cool and collected homes- justina blakeney
while this isn’t a design book i’d normally pick up, i’m always open to getting out of my comfort zone. and i’m glad i did- i really enjoyed this book.
justina blakeney did such a beautiful job putting this book together- the pictures are gorgeous and the spaces are so cool. i love the color, the collected aspect, textile mixing and the organic touches.
i feel that sometimes these sort of books can be a little word heavy (let’s be real- pictures > words, in this case) but she includes short and sweet little blurbs about each space. sprinkled throughout are a series of “adopt an idea”s- which helps translate each style into your own home- and “diy”s that are totally doable and inexpensive.
i can just hear my sister laughing right now but i love the word ‘curated’. to me it means the perfect balance of everything you love with great layering and looking gathered, all while feeling easy. there are so many great designers out there right now who just get it. i feel like sometimes things can look so forced and stiff but it takes the right amount of all of the ingredients listed above to make a room perfect.
here are some images i just can’t stop thinking about.

‘pancakes for breakfast’ kate waddell. love this so much.
do y’all ever feel overwhelmed with how much goodness and inspiration there is on the internet? i definitely do. i use bloglovin, pinterest and tons of lists to remind myself of articles to read, places to go, things to do, diys, inspiration, etc. here are a few older links i just discovered on my bloglovin.
happy friday! it’s supposed to be below freezing here this weekend. not really sure i’m ready for that. especially since we haven’t gotten our fireplace in complete working order. i’m supposed to be going to high point market this weekend but not sure how to make it work since we’re headed to charleston on monday (!!!) hope everyone has a great weekend!
happy first weekend of fall! after being in charleston for six years, i’m excited for the crisp weather and amazing foliage! not going to lie though, it’s a little bittersweet. i sure do miss charleston.
it looks like the weather will be pretty cool here this weekend but rainy- yuck! sounds like a good weekend to curl up, watch netflix and drink this. but we are going to try to go to a couple fun fall events (this and this).
(ps-let’s NOT talk about how many leaves are going to be on our lawn in the next few weeks. side eye to you, huge maple trees.)
here are some of my favorite links from this week!
when you have a baby, everything changes- i know, i know, SO cliche buuut its true. you start to be more aware of what you put in/on your body, what you’re breathing, pesticides, new rugs giving off fumes- you get the picture. (side note- i promise i’m not that crazy mom who obsesses about all that and i haven’t gone completely green/non toxic but i do try to do little things here and there to help the balance. ie- a smarter diaper choice- so much love for the honest company, air purifying plants, natural fiber rugs.)
since we live in a 90 year old house with all hardwood floors, we had a lot of ground to cover (pun intended) and by that i mean we had to go on a rug shopping spree.
living room- new wool and cotton rugs + (not shown) new rug pad
we found some great rugs but after a couple days, i realized we were in desperate need of some rug pads. in the past i used those cheap rubber ones that smelled weird and left a really cute imprint- sorry, buyers! so i was on the lookout for some that were softer and less chemical-y, when i came across rugpadusa.com. they are low VOC, custom and super comfy. i ended up picking this rug pad (1/2 inch) for our bedroom and living room. let’s just say i’d sleep on them if need be!

do yourself a favor- head on over to their site and grab a couple! [ps- use AUG10 for 10% off!]
while rugpadusa.com gifted me these awesome rug pads, all opinions are my own!
